THE BALATON PROJECT

The Balaton Project is an ongoing exploration of summer life around Lake Balaton, where my grandmother’s house still stands. Each summer I return — both as someone who grew up here and as an outsider observing change. I document people and places that embody childhood nostalgia while revealing a landscape in transition. Once a retreat for the communist elite, the village is now reshaped by new wealth and luxury developments, displacing traditional communities. My work reflects this duality, honoring memory while confronting transformation.
